Progressive overload: Hevy and Strong compared.

NOTANOTR, an iPhone app launching soon, writes every set before you start, with load, reps and RIR from last time, tracks the estimated 1RM of every lift, marks a stall the moment it happens, and reads that stall against your sleep and your food.

The short answer

Logging the sets is half of progressive overload.

Hevy and Strong record what you lifted and show records, charts and an estimated 1RM. Hevy also fills in last time’s numbers, and its Hevy Trainer adjusts the weight as you progress. NOTANOTR logs the same way. The difference is what happens when a lift stops moving: NOTANOTR reads the stall against your sleep and your food for the reason.

A log with records

Hevy

Weight, reps, RPE and set types with last time’s values filled in, projected 1RM, personal record alerts and sets per muscle group per week. Hevy Trainer, part of Hevy Pro, adjusts the weight as you progress.

A log with 1RM charts

Strong

Best sets and estimated 1RM with Strong Pro, advanced charts, custom timers and an Apple Watch app.

A log that explains a stall

NOTANOTR

Every set written before you start, e1RM per lift, a stall marked at once and the coach’s plan for it, read against sleep and food.

Honest limits

What NOTANOTR does not do.

  • No AndroidiPhone only, for now. Hevy and Strong both run on Android.
  • Not for beginnersIt reads what you already log. It does not teach you how to train or how to count food.
  • Not in the App Store yetIt launches soon. Leave an address on the front page and we tell you when it is live.
  • Not freeUSD 39.99 a month or USD 299 a year, with 7 days free (CHF 39.95 or CHF 299 in Switzerland, EUR 39.99 or EUR 299 where the App Store charges in euros). Hevy is free with an optional Hevy Pro, and Strong has a free account.

FAQ

Questions lifters ask before they switch.

What is progressive overload?

Adding a little load, reps or quality over time, so a muscle keeps a reason to adapt. An app helps by showing what you did last time and whether the trend still climbs.

How does NOTANOTR spot a stall?

It tracks the estimated 1RM of every lift over every session and marks a stall the moment it happens, for example the same 140 kg × 8 for three sessions. The coach then says what to do first, and that can be sleep rather than the program.

Can I see sets per muscle?

Yes. Weekly sets for thirteen muscles, front and back, against the band your plan aims for, so you see at a glance what is falling short.

Does it use my watch?

NOTANOTR reads your watch’s data through Apple Health. With an Apple Watch that includes HRV, sleep stages and heart rate recovery, read against your own normal.

Can I log a set by voice?

Yes. Say the set to Siri mid-set, or tap it. The rest timer starts when you tick a set, with the next one ready, and runs on the Lock Screen.
